The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers was founded in 1894, and now is an international organization of 50,000 persons from over 132 nations. ASHRAE® fulfills its mission of advancing the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and their allied fields to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education.

The 2026-27 ASHRAE Society President is Sarah E. Maston, P.E., BCxP, LEED AP. Read more about this year's society theme entitled, “Changing the Game: Retrofitting for Resilience.” The theme focuses on how the building industry can work together to develop a winning “game plan” to improve the efficiency, performance and resilience of existing buildings in the face of growing climate and infrastructure challenges.
